Fall Laser Treatments at Simply Dermatology

Did you know that summer is the best time to start planning fall laser treatments? Despite the summer sun, cooler weather is just around the corner, and laser appointments are filling up fast!
That does not mean every laser has to wait until the weather cools down. Certain treatments may still be performed during the summer depending on your skin, recent sun exposure, upcoming plans, and ability to follow sun precautions. However, fall is a popular time for more intensive laser treatments because patients are typically spending less time outdoors and may find it easier to protect their skin during recovery.
Planning ahead also gives you time to choose the right treatment, prepare your skin, and schedule around work, travel, events, and the holidays. Instead of waiting until you suddenly want results, we can create a treatment plan that makes sense for your skin and your life.
Why Fall Is Such a Popular Time for Laser Treatments
Laser treatments can be performed at different times throughout the year, but fall and cooler weather often offers a few practical advantages.
As summer ends, UV exposure generally begins to decrease and people tend to spend less time outdoors. This makes it easier to avoid direct sun before and after treatment, which is an important part of reducing the risk of irritation and unwanted pigment changes.
Cooler weather can also make recovery more comfortable, especially after treatments that cause redness, warmth, dryness, or flaking. Patients may find it easier to plan downtime once beach days, outdoor events, and summer travel begin to slow down.
Fall is also when many people start noticing the effects of summer more clearly. Brown spots may look darker, tone may appear less even, and the skin may feel rougher or duller after months of heat and sun exposure.
Starting the conversation with us about your skin goals during summer allows us to identify those concerns early and recommend a treatment plan before fall schedules begin to fill. For more insight about what may be appropriate earlier in the season or during warmer months, check out our guide to laser treatments during summer.

Start With What You Want to Improve
The right treatment does not begin with choosing a laser. It actually begins with identifying what you actually want to change.
Some patients are mainly concerned with brown spots and sun damage. Others want to improve redness, visible vessels, acne scars, fine lines, enlarged pores, rough texture, or deeper wrinkles. In some cases, what appears to be a texture concern may also involve skin laxity or volume loss.
Our providers look at the full picture rather than automatically recommending the strongest treatment. We consider your skin tone, treatment history, recent sun exposure, downtime tolerance, upcoming plans, and the kind of result you are hoping to achieve.
A gentle laser may be the right place to start for one patient, while another may benefit from a more intensive resurfacing treatment. Some patients may need a series, while others may be better served by combining or staging different treatments over time.
The goal is always to match the treatment to the concern.
Fraxel laser for Sun Damage, Texture, and Fine Lines
Fraxel is one of our most versatile resurfacing treatments.
It creates controlled microscopic treatment zones in the skin, encouraging healing and collagen renewal while leaving surrounding tissue intact. Fraxel may be used to improve sun damage, uneven tone, fine lines, rough texture, acne scars, and other signs of aging.
It can also be used on areas beyond the face, including the neck, chest, and hands, depending on the patient’s concerns and treatment plan.
This laser is often a great option for patients who want meaningful skin rejuvenation without starting with the most intensive resurfacing treatment. Recovery commonly includes redness, dryness, swelling, and flaking, so it helps to choose dates when you do not have major work obligations, photographs, or social events immediately afterward.
Beginning this planning during the summer gives you more flexibility to choose a fall appointment that works with your schedule.
CO2 Laser for Deeper Resurfacing
For deeper lines, more significant texture concerns, acne scarring, or advanced sun damage, CO2 laser resurfacing may be an option.
CO2 is a much more intensive treatment that works by creating controlled injury in the skin to encourage renewal and collagen production. It can help improve deeper wrinkles, scars, uneven texture, and overall skin quality while also creating a tightening effect.
Because CO2 involves more recovery than gentler laser options, it is not usually a treatment patients want to schedule at the last minute. Downtime varies depending on the area being treated and the settings your skin needs, but patients should expect to plan around visible redness, peeling, swelling, and sensitivity.
Summer is a such a good time to discuss whether CO2 is appropriate, review how to prepare, and find a fall date that leaves enough time before holidays, travel, weddings, or other important events.

Clear & Brilliant for a Gentler Refresh
Not every patient needs aggressive resurfacing.

Clear & Brilliant is a gentler laser option for patients looking to improve early sun damage, dullness, uneven tone, fine texture, and overall radiance. Think of this laser as a “laser facial”. It provides skin-refreshing benefits with less downtime than treatments like Fraxel or CO2.
Patients may experience mild pinkness, warmth, or a dry, rough texture for several days, but many find it easier to fit into a busy schedule.
Clear & Brilliant can be a good option for patients who are newer to laser treatments, want preventative maintenance, or prefer a gradual approach. A series of treatments is recommended for optimal results that build on each other.
Planning ahead allows enough time to complete multiple sessions rather than trying to fit everything in immediately before an event.

VBeam for Redness and Visible Vessels
Laser planning is not only about brown spots, wrinkles, and texture.
Redness can also make the complexion look uneven, irritated, or less clear. VBeam is a vascular laser that may be used to target facial redness, rosacea, visible capillaries, red marks, and certain vascular concerns.
It can also be helpful for lingering redness after some procedures or for patients whose primary concern is the red component of their complexion rather than brown pigment.
Depending on the condition being treated, more than one session may be needed. Temporary redness, swelling, or bruising can occur, so it is still helpful to plan around your social calendar.
For some patients, VBeam may be performed on its own. For others, it may be done as a layered treatment with a resurfacing laser that addresses texture, fine lines, or sun damage.

Q-Switch for Brown Spots and Tattoo Pigment
Q-Switch laser treatment is often used for more targeted pigment concerns.
It may help address individual brown spots, unwanted pigment, or tattoo ink. The number of treatments required depends on what is being treated, the color and depth of the pigment, the treatment area, and how the skin responds. Usually a minimum of three to six treatments is needed to see results.
Tattoo removal in particular is a process rather than a single appointment. Sessions need to be spaced apart to allow the body time to clear fragmented pigment.
Starting earlier gives you a more realistic timeline and helps avoid the expectation that a spot or tattoo can be fully addressed immediately before an event.
Sometimes the Best Plan Includes More Than One Treatment
Different lasers are designed to target different concerns, so the best plan is not always one device. A layered approach is best for the most natural looking results.
A patient with both redness and sun damage may benefit from VBeam for vascular concerns and Fraxel for texture and pigment. Someone with a few distinct brown spots may use Q-Switch for targeted areas while considering a broader resurfacing treatment later.
Clear & Brilliant may be used as part of ongoing skin maintenance, while Fraxel or CO2 may be reserved for more significant correction.
Laser treatments may also be layered with Botox, filler, Ultherapy Prime, Micro RF, or skincare when several different factors are contributing to the way the face is aging.
For example, a laser can improve the surface of the skin, but it will not replace lost facial volume. Filler can restore support, but it will not correct sun damage. Ultherapy Prime or Micro RF may improve firmness, but those treatments serve a different purpose than resurfacing.
The goal is not to do everything at once. It is to choose treatments that complement one another and perform them in an order that makes sense.

What You Can Do During Summer to Prepare
Good laser results begin before the treatment itself.
Daily sun protection is one of the most important steps. Wear mineral-based broad-spectrum sunscreen every day and reapply when you are spending time outdoors. Avoid tanning, including intentional tanning and tanning beds, and let your provider know about any recent sunburn or significant sun exposure.
It is also important to be aware of any upcoming vacations, outdoor events, weddings, or other plans. Even if your treatment is scheduled for fall, your calendar may affect the safest and most practical timing.
Keep your skincare routine consistent and focus on supporting the skin barrier. Depending on the procedure, you may be instructed to pause certain active ingredients before treatment. Always follow the instructions provided by your medical provider rather than stopping products on your own.
You should also share any history of cold sores, pigment changes, difficult healing, or previous reactions to laser treatments.
Summer is a good time to make sure these details are addressed so you are properly prepared when your appointment arrives.
How Far Ahead Should You Plan?
There is no single timeline that applies to every laser treatment.
A gentler treatment like Clear & Brilliant may require less recovery time, but a series still needs to be spaced appropriately. Fraxel and CO2 require more consideration for downtime and healing. Treatments for tattoo pigment or persistent redness may require multiple sessions over several months.
Collagen improvement also continues after the visible healing process is complete. This means the skin may continue to improve gradually, rather than reaching its final result as soon as redness or peeling subsides.
Patients preparing for weddings, holiday events, or major travel should leave extra time rather than scheduling treatment immediately beforehand.
The earlier we discuss your goals, the easier it is to create a treatment plan that fits comfortably into your schedule.
Can You Still Have Laser Treatment During Summer?
Yes, certain laser treatments may still be performed during summer.
Whether it is appropriate depends on the specific laser, your skin tone, the area being treated, recent sun exposure, upcoming outdoor plans, and your ability to follow sun-protection instructions.
For example, someone who spends most of the summer outdoors, has a recent tan, or is leaving for a beach vacation may be advised to wait. Another patient with limited sun exposure and a concern that can be treated conservatively may still be a good candidate even during warmer months.
The season alone does not determine whether treatment is appropriate. Your provider will evaluate your skin and decide whether it makes sense to proceed now or plan for later.
Regardless of the time of year, sun protection and aftercare remain essential.
The Right Laser at the Right Time
Choosing a laser is about more than selecting the most recognizable treatment or the strongest setting.
It is about selecting the right device for the right concern, at the right time, with realistic expectations and appropriate aftercare.
For some patients, fall may be the ideal time for deeper resurfacing. For others, a gentler treatment during summer or a staged combination plan may make more sense.
Fall laser results often begin with a summer conversation. By planning ahead, our team can help you choose the right treatment, prepare your skin, and build a schedule around your goals, lifestyle, and upcoming events.
